How it works

Get certified as transcriber

  • Sign up as transcriber on the Scribie.com
  • Complete the account creation by confirming the email address that you used during the sign up process.
  • Next step is to set up your verified PayPal account on Scribie account settings.
  • Now after setting up all the process. Next you have to submit a test files by transcribing it. (I suggest you to practice a practice files available before submitting a test files. Please note that your submission will be rejected if the accuracy is low. The maximum number of attempts is 10.
  • If your submission is accepted, you will be certified as a transcriber.
After you have been certified, you can select any files and begin transcription. They are first-come-first-serve, so you can imagine how much audio you won’t be accomplishing unless you’re quick enough. Some audio is very difficult so you’d need a good understanding of accents too.

Transcription Process

Scribie offers two transcribing process.
  1. Automated Transcript
  2. Manual Transcript

Automated Transcript is AI generated and the accuracy varies from 60% to 95% depending upon the good audio quality, accented speakers, noisy or poor audio quality recordings. Price starts from $0.10/min. It requires self- corrections for 99% accuracy. 30-min turnaround time on orders.

Manual Transcript is done by transcribers and the accuracy is 99%. Price starts from $0.80/min with free re-reviews. 24-hours turnaround time on orders.

Manual Transcript has 4-steps for consistent results.

  • File splitting: Files are split into small parts at 6 minute intervals.
  • Review: During Review, the Raw Transcript is checked for correctness and quality, if possible. Timestamps and speaker tracking are also added.
  • Proofreading: All part files are collected together and the combined transcript is checked against the audio once more.
  • Quality Check: In the last step, the transcript is quality checked till accuracy is 99% or more and then delivered to the customer.

Conclusion

It’s a feasible way to make money on the side, not a lot. They are first-come-first-serve, so you can imagine how much audio you won’t be accomplishing unless you’re quick enough. Some audio is very difficult so you’d need a good understanding of accents too.

How much can you earn from it?

$0.50 to $5 for a 6-minute file of a automated and manual transcript. They pay per audio hour and not the actual time spent working on it.  Lastly, if not you may find the referral program helpful, even so they only pay 2.5% referral commission and 5% affiliate commission with monthly bonus of $5 for every 3 hours completed each month of the earnings they get. Which, again... is low? You’d need at least above 30 regular transcribers to benefit.

I’d say you’d only really benefit from this if you’re pro at transcribing, a fast typer and have lots of time on your hands.
